Re: Condoms as a Barter Item?

Better barter item would be contraceptive jellies, birth control pills, and other durables. I do agree that such products will be in very high demand IF the collapse is significant enough. But there are problems with even the more durable options.

1. You would either have to rotate, use, or discard your stock and replace it.
2. If purchasing power simply shifts downwards without a collapse, you my friend have nothing.
3. Your buyers may not be the respectable type you want around if S does HTF.
4. There are no durables for safe sex that protect well from disease.

Sorry to burst your bachelor party bubble, but you might need an alternative approach.

unlubricated they can make good water carriers.... those kind of things. SpecOps guys might kit a few up for those reasons.

Condoms as a Barter Item? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Condom seller with no Gold, I say good luck and may God bless your peradventure.

Condom seller with Gold ? ? ? ?Now that's a different story.

Any whiff of wealth from the blokes, then you had better park your market some place else. It would be in your best interests.

But if you are suddenly finding yourself becoming seduced by erotic, and flirtatious females of the same ilk, then you can play along with Winston Churchill's punch line. This way you could use your own Condoms for and at a profit. With pleasure and for a turnover. I had better stop there.

Backup found below:

ETC: I Am Not a Whore. Oh, Wait. Yes, I Am.

There's a story you've probably already heard, which is widely -- though perhaps apocryphally -- attributed to George Bernard Shaw*:

A certain gentleman inquired of a lady whether she would be willing to sleep with him for 50,000 pounds. After some hesitation, the lady replied that she supposed she would, in consideration of the magnitude of the offer. Then he asked whether she would sleep with him for twopence.

"Certainly not," she responded with indignation. "Just what kind of lady do you think I am?"

"Madam, I believe we have already established that," he remarked calmly. "Now we are just haggling over the price."

That gentleman in question, was none other, than 'Old Churchy',- slick Winnie himself. And what a slime ball.

Most birth control products will not keep long term.

If the crash is imminent than this would be a good plan.

Twisted Avatar 07-11-2009 04:49 PM

Re: Condoms as a Barter Item?

I would highly recomend that you do build a stash of them.... that and also quality feminine products as well.

Not if BUT WHEN the crash hits everyday items that people took for granted will command a high premium.

Do they expire after a few years???

Yes they do ........but left in a cool dry place still in orginal packaging they will keep for many years beyond that (remeber expiration has more to do with marketing rather than safety)

The best barter item will be the object where condoms are normally inserted. :ok:

Not the the object that is inserted in the condom. :thumpdown

That brings to mind an old saying ...

Women only own 1/2 the money in the world

But they do own 100% of the P***y.

You can say they have the market cornered..

Really?

Never heard of em, going to try them.
Someone wrote "not too small" which has been my problem with the regular ones. (I'm being serious)

One day I wished that Trojan would make the Magnums in thin, about 3 months later, I was in a relationship at the time they came out!

I was ecstatic! Spent last night with my ex, we still have ridiculous physical chemistry. Anyway I went to 3 stores to get them. Made all the difference.
These sound good though.

*Someone also said these are what most porno stars use!

Re: Condoms as a Barter Item?

FYI There are two kinds of condoms: natural and latex. If you ask for the most expensive brand you probably will get natural. Natural is the kind you can wash out and reuse.

BTW Here's another reason to keep them!

You can have a lot of fun with "finger Cots":bear_tongue:
They look like just like regular condoms except that they are mini (finger size).
I picked up a package of cots several years ago at an estate sale
and had a LOT of fun with them passing them out to friends who were going
out on dates telling them that they may need one in "case they get lucky"
Or you can plant them where their friends girlfriends will see them.
These things will really piss your buddies off ........................ lots of funbancha

Natural does nothing for diseases. Plus I don't know if I really want to wash out my condoms and re-use them, do you?

Hmmm .. dunno.

When the SHTF, then I will have my own harem of pre-qualified 'clean' females to attend the camp. Wont be needing condoms, because my L1A1 SLR will ensure that my harem is not exposed to contamination from the zombie hordes.

Thats the plan anyway.

I was planning along the same lines....

And exactly what is wrong with using a new in the wrapper natural condom, washing it out and selling it at the flea market?

Re: Condoms as a Barter Item?

The subject of condoms comes up every few months, and juvenile humor is a common reply. No matter how enlightened we may claim to be, sex and matters of reproduction can make us uncomfortable. But make no mistake, they, no less than wheat, power, and ammo are matters of survival, and if overlooked, are going to get you hurt or killed.

Sex is a basic human drive--in fact, in purely evolutionary terms, THE basic drive. Even if you personally have no interest in it, there will be others around you who do. It is a matter that you must consider.

Technology affords us easy calories. A long-term SHTF will deprive us of them, and our stores will provide us a fairly easy source until we can begin to consistently provide our own food. Another mouth to feed could mean that an infant dies, or is crippled from malnutrition, or it could mean that others, or everyone, dies. Technology also provides us easy entertainment, and feasible means of transportation. If winter lasts 5 months and you are snowed in to your rural retreat, how might you and your spouse pass some of that time?

STDs have been mentioned. Again, modern technology provides cures for many of them, and treatments for others that make it possible to stay alive. If you are on a 2,000 calorie/day diet, getting your minimum RDAs from a supplement, do you suppose your immune system will be at peak capability?

Condoms will be the single most effective means of protection from all these dangers. I do not include abstinence because it simply isn't realistic. Again, sex is a basic human drive. Danger and brushes with death actually stimulate that drive, because a very primitive part of your brain is saying "I need to reproduce RIGHT NOW before my genes are eliminated from the pool!" Why do you think teens like to go to horror movies on dates??

People mentioned latex and lamb skin. There is another option, polyurethane, which is stronger than either of the other two, non-porous, and transmits heat better than rubber, which is an insulator. I suspect they will, unlubricated, last longer under proper storage than latex or lamb. With plenty of those for your own use, latex condoms will make a good barter item, which are far better than nothing for your own use.

Do we need to talk about lubricants?

Unclad Lad 07-23-2009 03:53 AM

Re: Condoms as a Barter Item?

I'll bet there would be a niche market for a shelf-stable long-term storage condom. Stored at room temperature, a stack of 10 polyurethane condoms in a sealed can with a "use by" date of 15 years. Separate packets of lubricant are included, which keeps them from degrading.

Little pop top lid, Nonoxyl 9 or regular, Magnum or average....

Hmmm.
